There are a handful of photographs I’ve seen that show pelicans mid-catch, many with a whole mouthful of small fish, his huge pouch overflowing with provision. But then I saw one that— like this painting, the fish was so huge that it stretched the back of his neck. I don’t know if that’s biting off more than you can chew, so to speak, but I see it as a beautiful picture of having more than enough.
