The Myth of the Ibis

18”x 32” original acrylic on canvas

Have you ever seen a curved bill like this? Between the curve of the bill and the sweep of the neck, I’m smitten.

But apparently, I’m not the only one.

The Myth of the White Ibis

A prince transforms into an Ibis to escape what he believed was treachery in his palace. Hidden high in the trees in the palace gardens, he could peer back into the window where the council met.

Only the shape of the sword that he once carried was reflected by the telltale curve of his in the brilliant orange bill, his piercing blue eyes insightful into the inner workings of the throne room.

With feathers of the purest white, the queen suspected what had happened to her son and kept his secret safe until the day of his return.

I’m sure there are many more details to the story, but ultimately the Ibis represents keen wisdom and quiet perception. Now that’s the kind of bird I’d like to have as a friend.
